
In the same way most pop songs are verse-chorus-verse, visual repetition is also a great skill to riff with when you’re “on tour” and want to create something simple but impactful for all your adoring fans.
We all thought we would never find a use for geometry in those tedious math classes but let me tell you, using shapes and angles is a photographic formula for A+ shots. Combine those elements with a repeating pattern and, all of a sudden, you have something interesting, abstract and (hopefully) print-worthy sellable. It isn’t always apparent until you’re deep down in the edit but just like the FedEx logo, once you see it, you will forget you missed it in the first place.

So next time you see a bunch of scaffolding or hydro towers and think “ugly”, take another look. Ok, it’s still ugly but try again, this time with your inner, artistic eye. See it? Of course you do because there’s beauty in everything and your job as a photographer is to find it!
