As I was sitting here wondering what to blog in the dying hours of the weekly deadline and the slowburn of dusk provided some inspiration.

The sun coming and going is some of the best lighting a photog can ask for. To those of you new to shooting, the first and last hour of the day is commonly referred to as “Golden Hour” or for cinefolk, “Magic Hour”. This, of course, is reliant on decent weather where sunlight actually appears (if your live in Canada like me, this happens about 8% of the year).

I won’t go into all the technicals because the point of this entire post is to give you a cool little resource to help you find that perfect time of the day for those lovely yellows and oranges. And yeah, there is an app for that aptly named Golden Hour Calculator.

You can always use another shiny little icon on your phone (which also makes it convenient seeing as you will be outside in this instance). Head over to the appropriate store for your device and come back here and thank me later.

Finally, if you’re taking you laptop with you, Time And Date has a great resource here: https://www.timeanddate.com/astronomy/golden-hour.html
